Text: Acts 10–11
There is a natural tendency in all of us to draw lines—who belongs and who does not. But in Acts 10, God tears down a major wall: the division between Jew and Gentile.
This passage shows us something essential:
The gospel
is not restricted—it is for all, and it saves all who believe.
Cornelius is a surprising candidate:
A Roman soldier
A Gentile
Yet devout, prayerful, and generous
But notice this clearly:
Being religious was not
enough—he still needed the gospel.
Acts 10:2 – “A devout man who feared God…”
Acts 10:5–6 – He is told to send for Peter
Lesson:
God is already at work in the hearts
of people before we arrive—but they still need to hear about
Christ.
Peter had a problem—not ignorance, but prejudice.
God gives him a vision:
A sheet with unclean animals
A command to eat
A correction: “What God has made clean, do not call common”
Acts 10:15
Acts 10:28 – “Do not call any man unclean”
Lesson:
Sometimes the biggest barrier to
mission is not the world—it’s our own assumptions.
If we are honest, we all have people we think are “less likely” or “less worthy” of the gospel.
God confronts that.
Peter enters Cornelius’ house—something Jews avoided.
Cornelius gathers his family and friends, ready to hear.
Acts 10:33 – “We are all here in the presence of God to hear…”
Lesson:
When God prepares hearts, people are
ready to listen.
The question is—are we ready to speak?
Peter gets to the point:
Jesus is Lord of all
He lived, died, and rose again
Everyone who believes receives forgiveness
Acts 10:34–35 – “God shows no partiality”
Acts 10:43 – “Everyone who believes… receives forgiveness”
Lesson:
The message is simple and
powerful:
Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ
alone.
Not culture. Not background. Not law-keeping.
Before Peter even finishes preaching:
The Holy Spirit falls on the Gentiles
They speak in tongues
Jewish believers are shocked
Acts 10:44–45
This is undeniable proof:
God accepts
Gentiles fully—just as they are, through faith.
Lesson:
We don’t decide who can be
saved—God does.
And He saves all who believe.
Back in Jerusalem, Peter is questioned.
But when they hear the full story:
Acts 11:18 – “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance…”
The church recognizes this is God’s doing.
Lesson:
When God moves, even long-held
traditions must submit to His truth.
God shows no partiality—He saves sinners from every nation through Jesus Christ.
Do you have hidden barriers?
People you avoid
People you think are “too far gone”
God calls you to see people the way He does.
You are not responsible to change hearts—God is.
Your role is simple:
Go. Speak. Trust God to work.
If you are in Christ, remember:
You were once an outsider
too.
Ephesians 2:13 – “You who once were far off have been brought near…”
Acts 10 is not just about Cornelius.
It’s about the widening of God’s kingdom.
The door is open.
The gospel is for all.
And Christ is
Lord of all.
