William Miller predicted Christ would return in 1844.
When Christ did not return, SDA leaders reinterpreted the failure as Christ entering a “second phase” of atonement in heaven called the Investigative Judgment.
Deuteronomy 18:22
“When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen… that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken.”
The prophecy failed.
Scripture gives no allowance for “spiritualizing” failed predictions.
A false prophecy does not become true by reinterpretation.
The entire SDA system rests on a failed prophecy, which Scripture explicitly condemns.
Ellen G. White is a true prophet with inspired authority.
Multiple End‑Time Expected Dates
1844,
Spring 1844, 1845, 1850
All implied imminent fulfillment.
Outcome:
None were fulfilled.
Isaiah 8:20
“To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
Contradicted Scripture
Borrowed heavily (often word-for-word) from other authors without acknowledgment
Made false predictions (some never fulfilled)
Claimed visions that added doctrines Scripture never teaches
Galatians 1:8
“Even if we or an angel from heaven preach another gospel… let him be accursed.”
A prophet who adds doctrine, redefines salvation, or reinterprets failed prophecy fails the biblical test.
Since 1844, Christ has been investigating believers’ lives to decide who is worthy of salvation.
Hebrews 10:14
“By one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”
John 5:24
“He who hears My word and believes… has passed from death into life.”
Salvation is not under review
Christ’s atonement was finished at the cross (John 19:30)
No Scripture teaches a delayed or incomplete atonement
This doctrine destroys assurance and replaces faith with fear.
Saturday Sabbath-keeping is the seal of God
Sunday worship will become the mark of the beast
Ephesians 1:13
“You were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”
Colossians 2:16–17
“Let no one judge you… regarding a Sabbath day.”
Romans 14:5
“One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike.”
The seal of God is the Holy Spirit, not a day
Making Sabbath observance a test of salvation is legalism
No verse teaches Sunday worship equals the mark of the beast
Obedience to the Sabbath is necessary for final salvation
Law-keeping determines final acceptance
Galatians 2:16
“A man is not justified by the works of the law.”
Romans 11:6
“If by grace, then it is no longer of works.”
Any system that adds law-keeping as a requirement for salvation is not the gospel.
The dead are unconscious until resurrection.
Luke 23:43
“Today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
2 Corinthians 5:8
“Absent from the body… present with the Lord.”
Philippians 1:23
“To depart and be with Christ is far better.”
Believers are consciously with Christ after death.
The wicked are eventually destroyed and cease to exist.
Matthew 25:46
“These will go away into everlasting punishment.”
Revelation 14:11
“The smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever.”
Same word “everlasting” is used for life and punishment
Denying eternal judgment undermines Christ’s warnings
SDA is the “remnant church” of Revelation 12:17
Elevates one denomination above the body of Christ
Creates spiritual pride and isolation
Mirrors patterns seen in cult movements
1 Corinthians 1:13
“Is Christ divided?”

Seventh-day Adventism:
Began with a failed prophecy
Survived by redefining Scripture
Replaced assurance with fear and law
Added another authority beside God’s Word
It is not merely a denomination with errors — it is a system built on a false foundation.
John 8:36
“If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
