WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE MODERN GOSPEL
By Nick Bibile
Modern pulpits have too often exchanged repentance for reassurance and the Cross for comfort. What was once a message that pierced the heart has been softened into something that soothes the conscience. But the true gospel does not flatter—it confronts. It does not excuse sin—it exposes it. Its mission is not to decorate sin, but to destroy it.
The gospel comes as a sword, not a cushion. It wounds before it heals. It humbles before it lifts up. Christ did not begin His ministry with words of affirmation, but with a command: “Repent.” That call has never changed.
A gospel that refuses to name sin is no gospel at all. Silence about sin is not love—it is betrayal. For only when sin is brought into the light can grace be truly seen, and only the sinner who is convicted can be genuinely converted.
