What is God like?



The One True God

The Lord our God is the one and only living and true God. There is no other God besides Him, and He alone deserves worship.

God’s Self-Existence and Perfection

God exists by Himself and from Himself. He depends on nothing and no one for life or being. He is infinite and perfect, lacking nothing and limited by nothing.

God’s Incomprehensible Being

God’s nature is beyond full human understanding. While He truly reveals Himself, only God completely knows Himself.

God Is Spirit

God is pure spirit. He is invisible and does not have a physical body or parts like created beings. He alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light.

God Is Unchanging, Everywhere Present, and Eternal

God never changes in who He is or what He purposes. He is present everywhere at all times, and He exists forever, without beginning or end.

God’s Power, Holiness, and Wisdom

God is all-powerful, completely holy, perfectly wise, and fully free. He is answerable to no one and limited by nothing.

God’s Sovereign Will and Glory

God controls and directs all things according to His wise and righteous will. Everything He does is for His own glory.

God’s Love, Mercy, and Grace

God is loving, gracious, merciful, and patient. He is rich in goodness and truth. He forgives sin and rewards those who sincerely seek Him.

God’s Justice and Judgment

God is also perfectly just. He hates all sin and will not leave the guilty unpunished. His judgments are righteous and fearful.
