Enemy’s Greatest Assault on the Church

By Nick Bibile

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” — Matthew 5:28

We are living in a generation flooded with sexual temptation. Never before in history has pornography been so accessible, so normalized, and so aggressively promoted. Hollywood releases around 400 new films every year, yet the pornography industry releases hundreds of explicit films every month. Pornography websites receive more traffic than many major social media platforms combined. Around 80,000 people every minute are viewing pornography online. It is a multi-billion-dollar industry, estimated at more than 10 billion dollars annually. Sexual immorality has become embedded in modern culture.

What was once hidden in darkness is now openly celebrated. Sin is marketed as entertainment. Lust is called freedom. Immorality is treated as normal behavior. Yet God’s Word has not changed.

The world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” — 1 John 2:17

The battle against pornography is not merely a social problem — it is a spiritual war. Satan seeks to corrupt the mind, destroy purity, enslave souls, and weaken the Church of Jesus Christ.

Pornography: A Hidden Crisis in the Church

According to research cited by Christian survey organizations such as Barna Group, pornography has become a serious crisis even within professing Christianity. Surveys have claimed that approximately 68% of church-going men and nearly 50% of pastors struggle with pornography on a regular basis. Many believers live in secret bondage, ashamed and defeated, while few churches openly address the issue from the pulpit.

Satan and his demons have unleashed sinful imaginations in living color upon this generation. Through smartphones, computers, streaming services, television, and social media, temptation enters homes continually. Many have become addicted and feel powerless to break free.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8

Pornography enslaves the mind, weakens the conscience, destroys marriages, corrupts purity, and damages spiritual life. Many experts compare its addictive power to dangerous drugs because repeated exposure hardens the heart and deepens sinful cravings.

Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you… and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

Watering Down Sin

One of Satan’s greatest deceptions is changing the language of sin. What God calls sin, society now calls weakness, lifestyle, entertainment, or personal freedom.

Adultery becomes “an affair.”
Fornication becomes “casual relationships.”
Pornography becomes “adult entertainment.”
Perversion becomes “self-expression.”

But changing the name does not change the sin.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness.” — Isaiah 5:20

When minds are corrupted, actions soon follow. A society filled with lust eventually becomes filled with wickedness, broken homes, violence, impurity, and rebellion against God.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind.” — Romans 1:28

Satan Uses Media to Flood Minds with Sin

The enemy uses movies, television, advertisements, music, social media, and pornography to stir sinful desires. The eyes are often the doorway to the heart.

Jesus warned:

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” — Matthew 6:22–23

What enters the eyes affects the thoughts, imagination, desires, and eventually actions.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23

King David’s fall began with a single sinful look.

And it came to pass… that David arose from off his bed… and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.” — 2 Samuel 11:2

A careless glance can become a consuming fire when lust is entertained in the heart.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” — James 1:14–15

Society Normalizes Immorality

Modern culture glorifies fornication, adultery, pornography, and impurity as normal and acceptable. What once brought shame is now celebrated publicly.

Yet Scripture calls believers to holiness, not compromise.

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:3
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.” — 1 John 2:15–17

Christians are called to be separate from the world, not conformed to it.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

When Worldliness Enters the Church

One of the greatest tragedies is when the world enters the church itself.

False Teaching Permits Compromise

Many churches no longer preach repentance, holiness, or the fear of God. People gather teachers who tell them only what they want to hear.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” — 2 Timothy 4:3

Sin is softened. Conviction is avoided. Entertainment replaces reverence.

Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression.” — Isaiah 58:1

Imitating the World Instead of Christ

Some churches imitate Hollywood trends rather than reflecting biblical holiness. But God has called His people to live differently.

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.” — 1 Peter 1:15–16
Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people.” — 1 Peter 2:9

Scripture teaches modesty, purity, reverence, and godly conduct:

Practical Steps to Guard Against Sexual Immorality

1. Be Rooted in Scripture

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” — Psalm 119:11
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” — Psalm 119:9

A neglected Bible leads to a weakened spiritual life.

2. Flee Temptation

Flee fornication.” — 1 Corinthians 6:18
Flee also youthful lusts.” — 2 Timothy 2:22

Avoid websites, videos, social media accounts, conversations, and situations that stir sinful desires.

3. Guard Your Eyes

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?” — Job 31:1
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.” — Psalm 101:3

Believers must be careful about what they watch and allow into their minds.

4. Walk in the Spirit

Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” — Galatians 5:16
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.” — Galatians 5:17

Victory over lust cannot come merely through human strength.

5. Seek Godly Accountability

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” — James 5:16
Exhort one another daily… lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” — Hebrews 3:13

Sin grows in secrecy but weakens when brought into the light.

6. Remember Your Identity in Christ

Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” — 1 Corinthians 6:20
If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

The believer belongs to Christ and is called to live in purity.

Final Exhortation

We need pastors who would not be silent of this crisis but proclaim boldly of sin and the addiction of pornography and the call to holiness as Jesus will come to a holy church. Stand up for the truth.

Pornography is not harmless entertainment. It is one of Satan’s greatest assaults against this generation — a weapon designed to corrupt minds, destroy marriages, enslave souls, weaken churches, and dishonor God.

But there is hope in Jesus Christ.

Christ is able to forgive the guilty, cleanse the impure, and break the chains of sin.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” — John 8:36
Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” — Isaiah 1:18
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9

God calls His people to holiness, purity, repentance, and obedience.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” — Hebrews 12:14

In a corrupt and immoral generation, believers must stand firm, guard their hearts, renew their minds through Scripture, and live for the glory of God alone.
