1. Compromising Biblical Truth for Popularity:
•There is the temptation to make the message more appealing to the world by diluting core biblical principles. This involves prioritizing drawing a crowd and making the message "tasty for the world, more palatable for the flesh."
•This approach is contrasted with the true testing and nature of ministry, it all begins with spiritual discipline ("Matthew 4:1 Prayer and fasting"). •The worldly appeal contradicts the essence of God's word and the need for spiritual nourishment ("Matthew 4:4 Jeremiah 17:7: John 6:63-66"). Instead of "holiness and sin" which convicts the sinner it’s very tempting to make the sinner comfortable with "worldliness, entertainment and jokes."
2. Pride:
•"Pride" as a significant pitfall, particularly the danger of a pastor forgetting their role as a "slave" of God. "Pulpit pride."
•This is in parallel to "Satan's fall" Satan tempts Jesus with worldly power and recognition to illustrate the seductive nature of pride, Matthew 4:5-9 •There is the "pride of recognition," where the minister becomes the center of attention, leading to "Testing the Lord."
•True humility is foundational to the ministry. (which speak of serving others and Christ's own humility). Humility begins at the bottom and pride comes from the top.
3. Greed for Money and Wealth:
•The third pitfall identified is the "Greed for money and wealth." See the temptations faced by Jesus (Matthew 4:8-10).
•See the biblical examples ("Judas, Gehazi, Achan, Ananias and Saphira, Demas") who fell into greed.
•We should avoid a "Money centered gospel" where the focus shifts from "making people sanctified and holy" to personal financial gain, driven by the idea that "More people in the church, more money for me." Remember God’s word is not fleshly but spiritual John 6:63-66
4. Pornography according to a survey 60% of Christians are addicted to porn, including pastors. Online porn is a digital heroin. According to Barna Group a Christian research organization there is a crisis in the ministry where no one is talking about as most ministers are involved, Satan and his demons have unleashed sinful imaginations in living color. According to the survey 68% of church goers and 50% of pastors watch porn in the internet on regular basis.
Porn website receive more traffic than other social media combined. 80, 000 people a minute watch porn. It’s a 10 billion dollar business. Porn is demonic get addicted like heroin.
1 Corinthians 6:20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Thessalonians 4:7 For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Jesus said, even if you look at a woman with lust in your heart An important warning to those entering ministry. The four critical pitfalls – compromising truth for popularity, falling into fleshly pride, the trap of greed , and pornography. The importance of remaining grounded in God's word, practicing humility, and prioritizing spiritual growth and holiness over worldly success and personal gain. The idea that the "real ministry" is a test that requires spiritual discipline and a steadfast commitment to core biblical values.
