Sanctification
is war. Owen does not soften his words because Scripture does not
soften the reality. Sin does not rest, and neither can the Christian.
Grace does not make us passive—it makes us fighters. The Spirit
gives power, but He does not fight apart from us. Where there is no
battle, there is no life.
Ask yourself plainly: What sin am I tolerating that God commands me to mortify? Peace with sin is hostility toward God.
Prayer
“Lord,
give me a holy hatred for the sins that You hate. Strengthen me by
Your Spirit to put them to death. Amen.”
