Of God and of the Holy Trinity

1. Who God Is

There is only one God.
He is the living God who truly exists and never changes.
He is completely independent—He does not need anything, but everything depends on Him.
He is infinite, meaning He has no limits.
He is a spirit, without a body.
He is eternal, having no beginning or end.
He is unchanging in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.

Scriptures:

• One God: Deut. 6:4; 1 Tim. 2:5

• Spirit: John 4:24

• Eternal and unchanging: Ps. 90:2; Mal. 3:6; James 1:17

• Perfect in all His attributes: Ex. 34:6–7

2. God’s Knowledge and Power

God perfectly knows all things—past, present, and future.
Nothing is hidden from Him.
He is completely wise in all His decisions.
He is perfectly powerful and can do all His holy will.
God does everything for His own glory.

Scriptures:

• Knows everything: Ps. 147:5; Heb. 4:13

• Works all things according to His will: Eph. 1:11

• For His glory: Rom. 11:36; Isa. 48:11

3. God’s Goodness and Justice

God is perfect in holiness, justice, mercy, and love.
He is gracious and patient.
He forgives sin through His mercy.
But He is also righteous and will never approve of evil.

Scriptures:

• Holy: Isa. 6:3

• Just and righteous: Ps. 89:14

• Loving and merciful: Ex. 34:6; Ps. 103:8

• Will punish sin: Nahum 1:3; Rom. 2:6–8

4. God’s Sovereignty

God is the absolute ruler over everything.
He does whatever He pleases, but always in a holy and wise way.
Nothing can stop His plans.
Yet He never causes sin or does evil.

Scriptures:

• God rules over all: Ps. 115:3; Dan. 4:35

• Does no evil: James 1:13

• Works all things wisely: Rom. 8:28

5. God Is Most Loving and Worthy

God is perfect in Himself.
He doesn’t need anything from His creations.
But He chooses to show kindness and love.
He is fully worthy of our trust, our worship, and our obedience.

Scriptures:

• God needs nothing: Acts 17:24–25

• Worthy of worship: Rev. 4:11

• God is love: 1 John 4:8

6. The Trinity

Although there is only one God, He exists in three Persons:

• The Father

• The Son

• The Holy Spirit

All three are fully God—equal in power, equal in glory, equal in eternity.
But they are different Persons, not one Person.
The Father is not the Son, and the Son is not the Spirit, yet they are one God.

Scriptures:

• Father, Son, Spirit together: Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14

• The Son is God: John 1:1; Heb. 1:8

• The Spirit is God: Acts 5:3–4

• One God: Deut. 6:4

7. The Work of Each Person

• The Father plans all things and sends the Son.

• The Son comes into the world as Jesus Christ to save sinners.

• The Holy Spirit gives new life, comforts believers, and applies Christ’s work to our hearts.

Scriptures:

• Father sends the Son: John 3:16–17

• Son saves: 1 Tim. 1:15; John 1:14

• Spirit gives new birth: John 3:5–8; Titus 3:5

• Spirit comforts and works in us: John 14:26; Rom. 8:9–16

Short Summary
