Part 1
Definition:
God’s
decrees are His
eternal plans—His
unchanging decisions about everything that will ever happen.
God does not make decisions suddenly or change His mind like humans.
Everything He decides flows from His perfect wisdom and goodness.
His plans include all things—great and small—without violating human responsibility.
“He works all things according to the counsel of His will.” — Ephesians 1:11
“My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose.” — Isaiah 46:10
“The plans of the LORD stand firm forever.” — Psalm 33:11
God’s decisions were made before time began. God does not learn anything or need new information.
“Known to God are all His works from eternity.” — Acts 15:18
“He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.” — Ephesians 1:4
“He saved us… according to His own purpose… before time began.” — 2 Timothy 1:9
God
was not forced to create the world or save anyone.
He decided
everything freely, according to His own perfect will.
“He does according to His will.” — Daniel 4:35
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy.” — Romans 9:15
“No one can stay His hand.” — Daniel 4:35
God
never makes a foolish or mistaken choice.
Every part of His plan
is wise—even the parts we do not understand.
“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom of God!” — Romans 11:33
“Great is our Lord… His understanding is infinite.” — Psalm 147:5
God has one single decree in Himself (one plan),
but we see it in many parts—creation, providence, salvation, judgment.
Example: A builder has one plan but many steps.
“He works all things according to the counsel (singular) of His will.” — Ephesians 1:11
God
never changes His mind.
What seems like God “changing” is
really humans entering into a new relationship with the same
unchanging God.
“I the LORD do not change.” — Malachi 3:6
“God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent.” — Numbers 23:19
“There is no variation or shadow due to change.” — James 1:17
