External evidence of the creation

By Nick Bibile

“He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living.”
— Jesus Christ (Mark 12:27)

Definition of God

According to the Webster Encyclopedic Dictionary (1969), God is “a being conceived of as possessing divine power, and therefore to be worshiped; the Supreme Being, Jehovah—the eternal Spirit, the Creator, and the Sovereign of the universe.”

Today, many identify as atheists or agnostics. An atheist denies the existence of God, while an agnostic is uncertain about God’s existence.

Yet Scripture declares:

“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’”
— Psalm 14:1

The Nature of God

God is living, active, and infinitely powerful. He is the only wise and true God—the Creator of all things and the Governor of the universe. He is not dependent on any authority, nor is He subject to any power. He is the ultimate authority, unequaled and unmatched.

All creation, from the highest heavens to the smallest particle, depends on Him—yet He depends on nothing.

“With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him?”
— Isaiah 40:14

God’s Infinite Holiness and Wisdom

God is perfect in all His ways—without defect, sin, or limitation. His holiness is absolute. If there were any imperfection in Him, He would not be the infinite God.

His wisdom and knowledge are beyond human comprehension. Just as children struggle to understand complex truths, humanity—finite and limited—cannot fully grasp the infinite mind of God.

“Can you fathom the mysteries of God?”
— Job 11:7–8

“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!”
— Romans 11:33

The Existence of God

The existence of God is revealed in two primary ways:

  1. Scripture – God’s written revelation
  2. Creation – God’s visible handiwork

The Bible reveals His character, while nature displays His power. His “fingerprints” are evident throughout the universe.

Evidence from Time

Time itself points to design. It is structured—seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years—all functioning in precise order.

“Let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years.”
— Genesis 1:14

Time has beginnings and endings. This order suggests intelligence and purpose. Such precision cannot arise from randomness—it reflects the work of a Designer.

The Beauty and Order of the Universe

Centuries before scientific confirmation, Scripture described the Earth as a sphere:

“He sits above the circle of the earth.”
— Isaiah 40:22

Explorers like Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand Magellan later confirmed what Scripture had already declared.

The Earth rotates at tremendous speed—yet we do not feel it. It orbits the sun with incredible precision, without maintenance or interruption. Unlike human inventions, which wear down and fail, the Earth continues in perfect consistency.

Who sustains this motion?

“He hangs the earth on nothing.”
— Job 26:7

Intelligence Behind Order

Order always implies intelligence.

If a hurricane destroyed a house, restoring it to order would require a thinking, intentional being. In the same way, the intricate order of the universe points to a supreme intelligence.

Consider human inventions—cars, computers, airplanes. A Boeing 747, with millions of parts, functions in perfect coordination because it was designed.

How much more the universe?

To claim that such complexity arose by chance is like saying a hurricane could assemble an airplane from scattered debris.

The Witness of Creation

You do not need advanced education to recognize design. The heavens themselves testify:

“The heavens declare the glory of God.”
— Psalm 19:1

“When I consider your heavens… the moon and the stars…”
— Psalm 8:3

The Earth spins at roughly 1,000 miles per hour and orbits the sun at about 67,000 miles per hour—yet remains stable. Countless celestial objects exist, yet collisions are rare due to precise order.

Who governs this?

The Order of the Smallest Things

Even at the atomic level, there is structure. Atoms consist of protons, neutrons, and electrons arranged in an orderly system.

This microscopic precision reflects the same intelligence seen in the vast universe.

“In Him all things hold together.”
— Colossians 1:17

The Laws of the Universe

The universe operates according to consistent laws—gravity, motion, and orbital mechanics.

Laws require a lawgiver.

“Do you know the laws of the heavens?”
— Job 38:33

“The fixed order of the moon and the stars…”
— Jeremiah 31:35

A perfect system points to a perfect Lawgiver.

An Illustration from Sir Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton once built a model of the solar system. When a skeptical friend admired it and asked who made it, Newton replied, “Nobody.”

The friend objected—of course someone made it.

Newton then made his point: if a small model requires a designer, how much more the real universe?

Conclusion

To claim that everything exists by chance is to ignore the overwhelming evidence of order, precision, and design.

Chance produces disorder—not harmony.

From the vast galaxies to the smallest atom, from the flow of time to the balance of life (oxygen and carbon dioxide), everything reflects intelligent design.

The external evidence is very clear:

There is a Creator.

There is a Designer.

There is a living God.
